It's the LAW

The Federal and State Governments have established laws to help protect future generations from the effects of our current consumption. In 1998, the Federal government put into place Executive Order 13101 entitled: Greening the Government through Waste Prevention, Recycling, and Federal Acquisition (http://www.ofee.gov/eo/13101.htm).  In the State of New Jersey, Executive Order #91 was established to address this issue (http://www.state.nj.us/infobank/circular/eof91.htm). Most recently, acting Governor Cody of New Jersey inacted Executive Order #76 regarding the use of green cleaning products, http://www.state.nj.us/infobank/circular/eoc76.htm. Organizations should work towards the careful inclusion of environmental law statements and goals in their competitive purchasing process. If the environmental laws are being used to assist the purchasing process, they must be viewed as value-added/cost avoidance mechanisms.
