In conjunction with Rutgers University's overall commitment to diversity and inclusion, it is the policy of Rutgers to promote and increase business opportunities for minority and women business enterprises (MWBEs) through our Supplier Diversity initiative.
This policy is being implemented to ensure that MWBEs receive their fair market share of Rutgers' total expenditures for products and services, as well as an effort to strenghten ties with the communities in which Rutgers does business, by creating mutually beneficial business relationships leading to growth within the surrounding community.
MWBEs include companies that are 51% owned and operated by:
- African-American
- Asian-American
- Hispanic-American
- Native-American
- Women-owned
Rutgers University is committed to an effective Supplier Diversity initiative that requires business deliverables, which are measurable improvements from year to year. We seek to do this by developing a strong foundation of highly qualified, MWBEs that can provide us with exceptional goods and services at competitive prices.
It is not only our policy, but also our vision and commitment to forge supplier relationships that reflect the cultural diversity of Rutgers University.
The effort is university-wide and includes traditional procurement and contracted services as well as subcontracting and joint venture activities.
The Purchasing Department will manage the process within the University's policies and procedures; however, all Schools and Departments must be instrumental in embracing the initiative and working together to meet the University Global Diversity goals and objectives.
