Screamin' Hot Deals
Computers!
The Purchasing Department recently issued request for proposals for the bulk purchase of Rutgers-configured personal computers and laptops for a period of six months. The IT Procurement Planning Committee , a group of technical representatives from throughout the University, have defined specifications for a handful of desktop systems, laptops, and accompanying options designed to meet the broadest needs of the university. The system specifications were presented to vendors for pricing, and the resulting discounts are greater than those typically available through consumer or other corporate pricing programs. The University PC Purchase Cycle (PC/Laptop Purchasing Program http://findtech.rutgers.edu/common/tmplt.shtml?pg=home&fm=lf ) is a process to be repeated twice a year, designed to generate discounts for personal computers and laptops based on estimated purchases of systems across the University and its Cooperative Purchasing Partners. The current cycle is focusing on releasing a new Bulk PC/Laptop contract at the beginning of each quarter (Oct 1, Jan 1, Mar 1, and Jun 1) with purchases to be made between each quarter.

Green Purchasing
RU Buying Green?
The Purchasing Department has a webpage designed specifically for our University ‘GREEN-minded' purchasers, http://purchasing.rutgers.edu/green . In order to be good stewards of the environment, we should buy products that conserve energy and other precious resources. Green Purchasing minimizes negative environmental effects through the use of environmentally friendly products. Environmentally Preferable Purchasing or Green Purchasing (GP) refers to the procurement of products and services that have a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment when compared with competing products or services that serve the same purpose. This comparison may consider raw materials acquisition, production, manufacturing, packaging, distribution, reuse, operation, maintenance or disposal of the product or service. Be sure to look through the University's Green Purchasing Policy and see how your department can help affect change that will benefit our children's grandchildren! |
